Visit St. Peter’s Church (1710) – the oldest Christian Church still in use in Malaysia. Drive past the largest 17th century Chinese cemetery outside of China, located at Chinese Hill. Stop at the foothill to view the Sultan’s Well before driving through the Portuguese Settlement.

Proceed to view the famous gateway, ‘Porta De Santiago’ and the ruins of St. Paul’s Church lined by 17th century Dutch tombstones. Next is ‘Red Square’ – the salmon pink Dutch administrative buildings housing the Malacca Museum and government offices. Visit Christchurch, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple – the only temple where you can find 3 major doctrines under the same roof, Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Take a stroll along Malacca’s Jonker Street, which ends by the banks of the Malacca River.

Proceed to Kuala Selangor town in the quiet hamlet of Kampung Kuantan, one of the largest firefly colonies in the world.

On arrival, visit ‘Kota Melawati’ formerly known as ‘Fort Altingsburg’, the execution block, royal mausoleum and colonial buildings. A bird sanctuary park at the foot of Bukit Melawati is an ideal place for bird watchers to watch migratory birds. Also found are silvered-leaf monkeys, butterflies etc.

Proceed to Kampung Kuantan and row upstream in a small unmotorised boat in the quiet darkness to witness the blinking trees. This scintillating display of fireflies portrays an image of a flashing Christmas Tree.

Our last stop will be at the limestone hills of Batu Caves that comprises of three caverns and several smaller caves.  It is the shrine of Lord Murugah, a Hindu deity – a flight of 272 steps lead up to the temple cave.  Another cave, called the museum cave is filled with images of deities and murals depicting scenes from the Hindu scriptures.

An educational tour of nature and environment outside of a jungle. The Orchid Garden houses about 3000 species of orchid plants, of which 800 species are from Malaysia. This huge collection includes hybrid and exotic species thriving abundantly on this one hectare of floral paradise. Truly one of nature’s greatest creations, be awed as you feast your eyes in this colorful garden of Eden.

The beautiful and lush Butterfly Park is created with more than 15,000 plants to give it the look and feel of a rainforest. The Park is home to some 6,000 inhabitants of over 120 species. At the nursery you will learn about the life cycle and mating habit of these graceful insects. There is an interesting insect and creepy-crawlers museum. Spread across 110 acres of land, the Malaysian Zoo is run by a non governmental organization – the Malaysian Zoological Society. Its existence is based mainly on donations, adoptions and sponsorships. The Zoo features over 400 species of local exotic mammals, reptiles, fish and birds, majority of which are fish and birds. One of the more popular stops is the “Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium” which displays over 80 species of aquatic animals and invertebrates, both marine and freshwater.

Upon arrival at our next stop, you will be taken for a tour of the Pewter Gallery. Besides the products displayed, the Gallery offers a host of interactive displays and fascinating exhibits, aimed at educating and titillating the senses. The highlight of the tour is ‘School of Hard Knocks’ – with just a few simple tools (hammer, wooden mould, scraper), you can personalize a pewter dish with your initials or messages. An experienced pewter smith will guide you through the simple processes of forming, scraping, polishing and packing. The finished dish, a certificate of your new found skills and an apron are your momentos for keeps.

A DAY IN THE RAINFOREST

Come and experience the feeling of being in the tropical rainforest within the city limits of Kuala Lumpur! This program is specially designed to introduce the wonders and beauty of a primary tropical rainforest, led by an expert on Malaysian Jungles. Approximately an hour’s journey to the outskirts of the city, you will pass through typical Malay villages where you can catch a glimpse of local villagers going about with their daily chores. Our first stop is the Aboriginal Museum. Amongst items displayed are hunting weapons, clothing made from tree barks, traditional musical instruments and wood carvings.

On your arrival at the lodge, before proceeding with jungle trekking, your guide will give you a brief introduction of the place, help you to identify various fruit trees, and share with you some of the activities and games frequently played by the local villagers. You can test your shooting skills with a blowpipe, fish with a bamboo pole (catch & release) at a nearby fresh water pond, waddle in the nearby running stream, take a dip in the swimming pool or just lounge under the sun, absorb the fresh, clean air from the lush tropical surroundings. Be prepared to get your shoes wet when threading on streams and river, during trekking. (Local lunch included)
