Discover the character of George Town at night. Starting from the Hotel, walk through Komtar and take the lift up to the 60th floor of Komtar Tower which used to be the tallest building in Malaysia. After viewing the night cityscape, take a Trishaw ride through upper Penang Road (where the night spots are located) and the adjacent streets.

No visit to Penang will be complete without an experience at the “hawker centre”. You will visit a typical hawker centre where many kinds of food and drink are prepared and served. Even if the food and drink may not be your “cup of tea”, the visit is an experience for the senses from smell, sound, sight and ambience.

Preparations: wear comfortable walking shoes and light clothing, have an early dinner, bring your camera and come with an open mind.

The Kek Lok Si Temple is one of the largest Buddhist Temples in South East Asia covering an area of 12 acres. Perched on the side of a hill, the temple encompasses distinct Thai, Burmese and Chinese architecture. Once your guide has finished introducing you to this fascinating building, you are free to wander around the temple.

The journey by funicular railways to the summit of Penang Hill takes approximately 30 minutes. Once at the top the views are fantastic and you can clearly see the mainland and the connecting Penang Bridge, the longest in South East Asia. You will also be able to pick out the landmarks of Georgetown that you may have already visited. During your free time on the hilltop you can have a cup of coffee or tea, visit a small aviary, or just stroll and enjoy the cool, clean air.

This excursion gives you an ‘overview’ of Penang. Drive past Batu Feringghi, the beach area in the north and stop at a local batik factory (shopping is optional). Continue on to Teluk Bahang, passing by fishermen’s quarters, before your visit to the Penang Butterfly Farm.

Travel along the western hills, where the terrain is suitable for fruit-growing, especially the infamous durian “King of the Fruits”. At a roadside fruit stall, you may see some of the fruits in season. The countryside view along the way back includes Malay villages and residential areas.

Preparations: bring some drinking water and camera; wear comfortable walking shoes and a lovely smile.

This is essentially Georgetown City Tour touching on colonial history and the cultures of the city folks. At the Esplanade, you get to see Fort Cornwallis and the City Hall in the distance. You will then visit Chew Jetty, an area where the residents live in houses above the water by the sea.

After this, you will be dropped off at Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, dubbed “street of harmony”, where you can find a mosque, a Hindu Temple, a Taoist Temple and a Church along the same road. You shall have a chance to enter the Mariamman Temple, the Kuan Yin Teng and St George’s Church. A little visit in Penang Museum will provide you with more insight into the cultural origins of the Penangites. Before coming back to the Hotel, you will have a short visit to the Eastern & Oriental Hotel.

A morning’s leisurely drive to the northern tip of the island. On arrival one will have a scenic view at 120 meters above sea level of the hills and it lush surroundings. Take a guided walking tour through a fruit farm of both local and foreign origin.
