A lot of people like to run for recreation or to compete. This event, however, takes your running ability to a complete new level, skill-wise and height-wise.
Sabah Tourism in conjunction with Sri Pelancongan Sabah will host the 29th Mt Kinabalu International Climbathon. Every year runners from around the world take on the majestic Mt Kinabalu. This year in particular is very special as it is the first race since the destructive earthquake of June 2015. The race will take place 15th – 16th October 2016.
There are two routes to choose from: the first option is the Adventure Race (23km) Route that starts from Kinabalu Park to the Summit Trail of Layang-Layang, down to Mesilau and ends at Kundasang Town. This category is open to all. However, only qualified participants can register for the second route – Summit Race (33km) which takes them from Kinabalu Park all the way to the summit of Mount Kinabalu before concluding at Kundasang. While casual climbers may take an average to two days to scale the mountain, professional mountain runners can clock as fast as 4 hours.
So where do you fit in? Beginner, Professional or Observer? Whichever it is, it will be an amazing event.
