Arrive in Sandakan Airport, meet and transfer to the Fourpoints by Sheraton, Sandakan.
Overnight at Four Points by Sheraton, Sandakan
Transfer to the Sandakan seafront jetty. At 09:30hrs, speed boat departs for Selingan Island, the main nesting area for green turtle, which lies 40km north of Sandakan in the Sulu Sea off Sabah’s east coast. Boat journey is approximately 1 hour. Check into simple accommodation facility and relax by the beach or take up snorkel at the nearby reefs.
After dinner, Park Ranger will signal the appropriate time to view huge Green turtles coming ashore to lay eggs. Witness the eggs being transferred to hatchery from the nesting site. Offer help to release baby turtles onto the shore and be overwhelmed by the emotion of seeing the turtles scrambling to the open sea by some natural instinct. Since the introduction of a conservative program in Selingan Island in 1967, a large number of turtles are now returning to lay their eggs and the chance to see the sea creature is almost certain every night.

After breakfast, depart at 07:00hrs to return to Sandakan. Transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre (30 mins journey) situated in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Founded in 1964 the Centre helps once captive Orang Utans learn to climb and fend for themselves in the wild with the hope that one day they may return to the forest. The semi-wild Orang Utans may return to the platform provided by the Centre for milk and bananas twice a day during the process of returning to the forest. Visitors will get a close up view of these Orang Utans and have the chance to photograph them at close range. Witness the feeding of the orphaned Orang Utans, walk along jungle trails on board walk, visiting the information centre, exhibits and video presentation on the rehab of these remarkable primates.
Continue on the drive to one of the world’s richest ecosystems, Lower Kinabatangan River, Sukau. Arrive atSukau, a base for easy exploration of the incredible diversity of plants, mammals and birds. Take a short boat transfer to a river Lodge. Time for orientation briefing, a welcome drink and check in. Lunch will be provided in the lodge restaurant.
At 16:00hrs, take a river cruise in search of endemic proboscis monkeys, different species of birds & other wildlife along the river bank. One may also catch a glimpse of a wild Orang Utan, leaf monkeys, gibbons, macaques or the “Borneon Pygmy Elephants”.
At 19:00hrs, dinner at the lodge restaurant. After dinner, you can go for an optional night safari cruise (self-expense, not included in tour price) where you can spot nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds. Overnight at river lodge
Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills at 6am. Today you have a choice to start your day with a morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River or jungle trek to Ox-Bow Lake for bird watching. Birds abound in all shapes and sizes and the lakes are the abode of freshwater fish, otters and sometimes wild elephants may be sighted. Experience the wilderness of Borneo.
After your morning exploration, return back to lodge for late breakfast then free at leisure.
Afternoon lunch will be served at the Lodge restaurant.
At 16:00hrs, take another river cruise in the late afternoon to see more wildlife along the Sukau Kinabatangan River Bank.
Dinner and overnight at river Lodge.
Drive to Lahad Datu and on to Danum Valley and the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Danum Valley has the largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah, covering 43,800 hectare.
After lunch, a slide show presentation followed by an afternoon trek and introduction to the forest through nature trails and a tree to canopy walkway providing a close-up observation of the rainforest.
After dinner a Night Drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
A morning jungle trek to the Kadazandusun burial site at Coffin Cliff before proceeding to view point for a bird’s eye view of the area. Descend to the jungle Jacuzzi Pool for a refreshing dip. Afternoon jungle treking or go for a relaxing session of tubing down the Danum River.
After dinner, a night walk in search of nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge
After breakfast, morning birdwalk and nature trails.
After lunch, drive to Lahad Datu (2 1/2 hrs) for your departure flight. (Malaysia Airlines MH3023 ETD 1740hrs / ETA 1835hrs)
Accommodation on all Sabah tours is basic. Rooms are generally twin bedded, with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito netting, (except Mountain Lodge) and attached en-suite bathrooms with hot showers.
As these lodges are in remote locations, rooms are simple, clean and comfortable. Although they provide a unique and memorable experience, you must be prepared to live without the creature comforts of home.
Please be advised that the trip to Selingan Island involves boat transfers. In the event of adverse weather conditions during or before the journeys, the boat operator has the absolute discretion to cancel or postpone the trip if it is deemed that it will jeopardize the safety of passengers. In the event of cancellation, a replacement tour will be offered.
